BMW i3 Neue Klasse Teased Ahead Of March 18 Debut

BMW is all set to debut the BMW i3 Neue Klasse on March 18. This upcoming electric model will serve as the EV alternative to the BMW 3 Series. The new model draws inspiration from the BMW Vision Neue Klasse concept and will be built on BMW's dedicated Neue Klasse platform, which is designed specifically for the brand's next generation of electric vehicles.

The BMW i3 Neue Klasse will feature a next-generation electric motor paired with advanced battery technology. The teaser images reveal several distinctive design elements, including wraparound LED headlamps with sleek DRLs, a horizontal illuminated grille, and prominent air vents that enhance the vehicle's modern EV styling.

In terms of proportions, the upcoming electric sedan retains the familiar silhouette of the 3 Series, featuring a long bonnet, a signature kidney grille, a rear-wheel-drive stance, and a clean vertical design language. The model is also expected to support ultra-fast charging capabilities, further improving its practicality for long-distance driving.

Inside the cabin, the Neue Klasse i3 is expected to feature a minimalist interior design with a completely new layout. It will likely include a panoramic display setup along the front window with a new 17.9-inch infotainment system powered by BMW's latest operating system.

Other expected highlights include a Harman audio system, a floating centre console, Digital Key functionality, parking assist features, and advanced connectivity options. Additional premium touches may include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, leatherette upholstery, and newly designed alloy wheels.

The electric sedan could feature a powerful quad-motor setup paired with a 108.7 kWh battery pack, producing around 469 hp and 645 Nm of torque. With these specifications, the vehicle is expected to deliver a maximum claimed range of 805 km, with a 30 percent increase over current EV battery technology.

BMW is also introducing a new generation of cylindrical battery cells with tighter packaging, which helps reduce the vehicle's overall weight while improving efficiency by approximately 25 percent. The original BMW i3 was discontinued in 2022, and the nameplate is now returning with the new Neue Klasse architecture.

Currently, BMW's electric lineup in India includes the BMW iX, BMW i7, and BMW i5. Once launched, the BMW Neue Klasse i3 is expected to compete with electric luxury models such as the Tesla Model Y, Audi e-tron, and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class in global markets.
