Ferrari Luce Revealed As First All-Electric Prancing Horse - 1,035bhp, 530km Range

Ferrari has officially unveiled the Luce, its first fully electric production car, marking a defining moment for the Maranello-based marque. The Ferrari Luce is a four-door, five-seater grand tourer that was designed not by Ferrari's in-house team, but by LoveFrom, the creative collective co-founded by former Apple design chief Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson.

The Ferrari Luce is the brand's first production car to feature rear-hinged coach doors and the first to accommodate three passengers across the rear bench. The Luce measures 5,026mm in length and stands 1,544mm tall, making it longer and lower than the Ferrari Purosangue. The boot capacity is 597 litres, exceeding that of a Mercedes S-Class.

The Ferrari Luce's exterior follows a 'simplification' principle, with smooth, uninterrupted surfaces running from the nose through the expansive glasshouse to the bootlid. Ferrari claims the Luce has achieved the lowest drag coefficient of any road car produced at Maranello.

Power comes from four independent electric motors, two per axle, producing a combined 1,035bhp and 11,500Nm of torque in Launch mode. The sprint from 0 to 100km/h takes 2.5 seconds, 0 to 200km/h arrives in 6.8 seconds, and top speed is rated at 311km/h. Ferrari's 'Torque Shift Engagement' system lets drivers use the steering wheel paddles to simulate the feel of petrol-car acceleration and engine braking through five progressive levels.

A front e-axle disconnect device can decouple the front motors in just 500 milliseconds when extra traction is not required, improving efficiency by up to 70 per cent over previous systems. Three powertrain modes, Range, Tour, and Performance, are selectable via an eManettino panel on the steering wheel and control power delivery, traction management, and whether the car runs in rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

The Luce draws on a 122kWh battery, which Ferrari describes as the most energy-dense unit ever used in an electric car. Claimed range stands in excess of 530km for the Luce, which allows for a maximum charging speed of 350kW with the Luce featuring an 800V architecture. The battery uses 15 modules arranged to fit within the existing wheelbase, with pouch cells chosen over cylindrical units for their lighter weight and higher energy density.

The chassis of the Ferrari Luce uses recycled aluminium, contributing to a claimed CO2 saving of 6.7 tonnes per vehicle built. The active suspension is derived from the Purosangue and F80, with a 20 per cent longer pitch on the recirculating ball screw for improved pothole absorption.

A new rear subframe, cast as a single hollow piece from recycled aluminium, reduces noise and vibration without adding significant weight. Rear-wheel steering offers up to 2.15 degrees of rotation for improved agility.

The braking setup pairs regenerative deceleration rated at up to 0.68G with a new Brembo carbon-ceramic system featuring 390mm six-piston front calipers and 372mm four-piston rear calipers. The Luce's bespoke staggered wheels measure 23 inches at the front and 24 inches at the rear and are the largest ever fitted to a production Ferrari.

Inside, the centrepiece is a three-spoke steering wheel machined from a single block of 100 per cent recycled aluminium, hand-finished and inspired by the Nardi wheels found in 1950s and 1960s Ferraris.

The instrument cluster uses layered OLED screens to create a three-dimensional display effect and moves with the steering column to stay optimised for the driver's line of sight. A mechanical multigraph with an aluminium bezel sits atop the central touchscreen, which mounts via a ball-and-socket joint and can rotate toward driver or passenger.
