Pravaig Veer: A Deep Dive Into India’s Stealthy Electric All-Terrain Military SUV On World EV Day
India's armed forces are slowly but surely adding EVs to their stables. From electric buses to transport troops to retrofitting old gas-guzzling gypsys with electric powertrains, our armed forces are doing their part to keep India green.
However, on the battlefields, our warriors and their vehicles, be it in the air, on the waves or on the ground all feature ICE powertrains. A part of that, though, looks set to change, if the people at Atima, the military arm of Bangalore's Pravaig Dynamics and their Veer electric vehicle, the world's first operational electric tactical all-terrain vehicle, have anything to say about it.

We first saw the Pravaig Veer at Auto Expo 2023 (pictured above). However, since then, the Veer has evolved and what we see now is still being tested to the full before it reaches its final form. The Veer is derived from the firm's Defy SUV platform and has been adapted into a mission-ready machine.
Earlier this year, the Pravaig Veer took part in Army field trials in Ladakh alongside conventional ATVs. According to a report by Vayu Aerospace, the Veer excelled at the tests, with its lower heat and sound signature, which made it less visible under FLIR surveillance than the other ICE-powered vehicles on test. Pravaig was given the iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence) Award by the Ministry of Defence shortly following the tests.

The Pravaig is powered by a dual motor, all-wheel drive setup that produces 620 Nm of torque. The Pravaig Veer accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and is limited to a top speed of 160 km/h. A 90.9 kWh LFP battery provides a range of over 500km on a single charge. Fast charging brings the pack from 0 to 80% in about 30 minutes.
The Veer is rated to tow 2.5 tons and offers 233.6mm of ground clearance. It can wade through 900mm of water. The payload deck of the Veer is rated for 690 kg, and the electric SUV rides on 18-inch wheels shod with 255/65 run-flat tyres with disc brakes and sports LED lighting. The veer tips the scales at 2,061kg.

The cabin features two digital displays. One provides vehicle telemetry. The second is configured for surveillance feeds, including drone imagery and thermal cameras, making the Veer suitable for reconnaissance and monitoring tasks.
Pravaig states that the Veer has been developed entirely in India, with no foreign data dependencies. Along with defence duties, the vehicle is positioned for disaster relief operations, border patrols, and wildlife conservation patrols, where silent and emission-free mobility is required.

Tested in military conditions, designed for stealth, and built with full domestic control, the Pravaig Veer is the world's first operational electric all-terrain tactical vehicle, extending the reach of EVs into defence and high-demand field operations. Version 3.0 of the Pravaig Veer is currently being readied and we can't wait to see what changes are brought with it and hope that it soon joins the army in keeping our nation safe.
