Jaguar F-Type Coupe Unveiled At Tokyo Motor Show
One of the most beautiful car of our times has just got a permanent roof. Its the Jaguar F-Type Coupe that we have all been waiting for ever since the British automaker revealed the F-Type convertible last year. And its looks like everything we had hoped for.
Jaguar F-Type Coupe is the production version of the C-X16 concept car that was first previewed at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. The F-Type Coupe is one of those rare cars which an onlooker would find it hard to differentiate from the concept car. And that's an incredible thing.

Jaguar F-Type Coupe is available in three variants like the convertible - two V6 supercharged models and a V8 supercharged model, only the V8 Coupe is called F-Type R Coupe, which tells you its a high performance machine.

The F-Type Coupe will be powered by 3.0 liter supercharged V6 engine delivering 340 HP and capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds. Same as the convertible. Top speed is limited to 259 km/h.

The F-Type S Coupe will be powered by the 380 HP version of the 3.0 liter supercharged V6 engine, capable of reaching 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. Same as the convertible. Top speed is limited to 275 km/h.

The top of the line F-Type R Coupe will be powered the same 5.0 liter supercharged V8 engine as the convertible, but the engine will deliver 550 HP (55 HP more than its convertible counterpart) and will accelerate to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds. That's 0.2 seconds faster that the convertible. Top speed is limited to 300 km/h.

All three variants will come with ZF Eight-speed ‘Quickshift' transmission with both full manual sequential control via paddle shifters or central ‘SportShift lever.

The F-Type Coupe models also come with second generation Electronic Active Differential and new Torque Vectoring system to improve handling further.

Being a coupe, Jaguar will offer the new F-Type with either aluminium or glass roof panels.

The F-Type Coupe also offers rear boot space, unlike the convertible, and its large enough, Jaguar says, to carry two sets of golf kits.

On top of the boot lid sits an active spoiler that automatically comes up when travelling in excess of 112 km/h (70 mph) and goes down once the speed goes below 80 km/h. The spoiler applies 120 kg of downforce to the rear spoiler.

In theory, F-Type coupe should offer an even better driving experience than the convertible taking into account higher chassis stiffness and lower weight (F-Type V6 Coupes weigh about 50 pounds less, while the F-Type R Coupe weighs the same as the V8 convertible).

While the F-Type R does not weigh less that its convertible version, it has been provided with revised suspensions and returned Adaptive Damping software settings, which, combined with the extra horsepower, should result in a significant bump in performance.

Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar says, "Creating a sports Coupe is the purest of design tasks, and also the most challenging; get it right and aesthetically the result will be as dynamic as the car should be rewarding to drive. In F-TYPE Coupe, I believe we've got it right. The purity of the C-X16 concept has been retained without compromise; the long bonnet, low roofline and tapering cabin of the F-TYPE Coupe inspires me every time I see it."

The key design characteristics of the F-Type Coupe explained in Jaguar's words. "The F-TYPE Coupe visual message is defined by three key 'heart lines', that visual message beginning with the formidable grille. It is from the twin 'shark gill' openings that sit either side of the grille that the essential first heart line - which mirrors the design of the F-TYPE Convertible - flows and begins to take shape. Running up through the headlamp, and accentuated by the LED 'J blade' signature running lamps, the line then arcs up over the front wheel arch before dropping elegantly as it runs through the door, washing out into the muscular rear haunch."

"The second heart line begins at the rear edge of the door, swelling outwards and upwards to create a visually strong wheel arch, emphasizing the car's rear-wheel drive layout, before dropping vertically through the tail lamp."

"The third heart line forms the dramatic, cabin-rearward, sweeping roof profile of the Coupe. Providing an unbroken silhouette, it highlights the visual drama of the tapered cabin nestled between the powerful rear haunches. The distinctive side window design, finished as standard in bright aluminum, accentuates both the compactness of the car and the roof profile."

Price:
F-TYPE Coupe $65,000
F-TYPE S Coupe $77,000
F-TYPE R Coupe $99,000
The V6 powered Coupe models cost $4,000 less than their Convertible counterparts, which is an unexpected, but welcome surprise. Jaguar is likely to display the Coupes at the 2014 India Auto Expo, followed by a launch soon after.
