Citroen C3 Aircross Automatic Review - An Easier Way Around
In August last year, French carmaker Citroen entered the family (4 metre+) SUV segment with the C3 Aircross. The French SUV vowed us with its looks, comfortable ride and old-school turbo petrol powerplant.
While we enjoyed the petrol engine with the 6-speed manual gearbox and lightweight clutch, we did wonder what the time behind the wheel C3 Aircross would be like with an automatic gearbox.

So when Citroen called us back telling us that they had done just that, well we decided to hop back into the French SUV and see what the results of the switch to the automatic gearbox had done to the C3 Aircross...
Citroen C3 Aircross Automatic Review - What's Changed and What's Not?
Well, the only change that Citroen has made to the C3 Aircross is to the powertrain. The main talking point of course is the new 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, sourced from Japanese transmission specialists Aisin.

The new gearbox has also meant that the 1.2-litre turbo engine has gained a few extra torques - 15Nm to be exact - and it now pushes out 205Nm. The power output on the other hand has remained the same at 108.4bhp. However, the weight of the Citroen C3 Aircross has increased by 34kg with the changes.
There aren't any other changes made to the Citroen C3 Aircross. Hell, Citroen hasn't even put an automatic badge anywhere on the C3 Aircross, so if you're looking for any visual cues, peek through the window.

Citroen C3 Aircross Automatic Review - Driving Impressions - More of The Same But Easier
Despite the weight gain compared to the manual version, the new Citroen C3 Aircross Automatic doesn't seem to suffer from it. The engine is still as peppy and turbocharged as ever with a strong mid-range and top end.

The new automatic gearbox for the C3 Aircross is quite the smooth operator. It shifts through the gears quickly and with ease - be it having to shift down for an overtake or deal with the city's slow jams - it just gets the job done every time.
However, the criticism we have is the fact that the only way to shift gears manually is through the gear lever. We do wish that Citroen had added a set of paddle shifters behind the steering wheel for those of us who wish to shift through the gears ourselves.

Citroen C3 Aircross Automatic Review - Final Thoughts & Verdict
The Citroen C3 Aircross Automatic fits with ease into the French SUV and is a good option for those not wanting to be bothered with shifting through the gears on their own. If you're looking at the Citroen C3 Aircross as one of the choices for your family SUV, do have a drive in the automatic version.
