Toyota to start Engines And Transmission boxes for Etios!

Toyota is all set to produce engines and gear boxes for the Etios car scheduled in December 2010 from its second plant. TKM has invested 4500 crores for two plants of Toyota Kirloskar Auto Parts (TKAP).

One of the Auto Parts plant produces 52,000 engines every year for the Indian market and the second Auto Parts plant produces 1,70,000 gear boxes for Thailand exports and Argentina exports beside supplying for Innova cars in domestic market. TKAP will plonk 500 crores more in increasing the production capacity of gear boxes to 2,40,000 units per annum and also to set up a third plant with 500 new employees to produce 1 lakh engines out of which 70,000 engines will drive Etios cars.

Toyota's car manufacturing plant was set up with an investment of Rs. 1700 crore and the second plant which is developed with an investment of Rs.3,200 crore will dish out the Etios cars. Toyota sold 55,000 cars in 2009 and will sell 70000 cars in 2010. With the introduction of Etios, by 2011, Toyota estimates selling 1,40,000 cars out of which half the number of cars will come from Etios car!
