Tata Nano Catches Fire In Sri Lanka

Most of the Tata Nanos exported to Sri Lanka were bought by a taxi company which said the Indian small car would offer a cheaper alternative to expensive taxis. The Nano was branded as the Budget Taxi. However with the Nano catching fire, the small car's appeal in Sri Lanka will definite;y suffer.
This is the first time a Nano has been reported to have caught fire outside India. But this is not a rare incident as we had earlier reported a Nano had burnt down in Anand, Gujarat. With increasing cases of Nanos catching fire, Tata Motors had conducted an enquiry and had reported that it had found no faults in the car that would have triggered a fire.
This study was conducted just after Tata Motors started exporting the Nano to Sri Lanka. The investigation of the burnt Nano is yet to be conducted. The latest incident has emerged as a n international crisis for Tata Motors. Sales of the Nano have plummeted in the Indian market despite offers and discounts. Tata Motors has to respond to this quickly and assure customers that its small car is safe or risk completely alienating the car from buyers.
Will Tata Motors become the first carmaker to face hefty fines from the union government after it enforces a new stringent Motor Vehicle Act? The Act intends to slap a Rs.1 lakh fine on every defective car sold by a carmaker. This Rs.1 Lakh fine will rather make a sad equation with the Tata Nano, which was initially marketed as the Rs.1 lakh car.
