Polaris To Launch Reva Rival In India

Pankaj Dubey, the managing director of Polaris India, said: “We have a good line-up of passenger and goods carriers in GEM. We will soon start a market study to assess the potential for these vehicles in India."
GEM has three electric cars and three commercial vehicles in its lineup. The electric cars are priced between 3.7 lakhs and 6.52 lakhs in the US. The commercial vehicles are slightly more expensive with price tags ranging between rs.4.28 lakhs and 5.80 lakhs. These vehicles can reach speeds up to 50kmph and can be charged at a 110volt electric points.
Polaris India which recently launched its dealerships in India is planning to increase its dealerships here. The company is planning to launch 25 dealerships from which it will be selling its off-road vehicles that are priced between Rs.2.4 lakh and 20.5 lakhs.
Mr Dubey while speaking about the GEM electric vehicles added: “These vehicles have a wide range of applications and can be used by consumers environmentally conscious for personal or commercial purposes. There is a lack of adequate infrastructure for electric vehicles in India, but there are certain markets where other manufacturers have been able to sell products. We will explore our options."
Mahindra Reva is India's only manufacturer of electric cars and it currently has one model the REVA. With annual sales of 3,000 units, the Reva is not a huge player in the car market. But it will be launching two new models later next year and push for better sales. Reva is now owned by Mahindra and this backing will help it to face competition from Polaris.
