Audi Overtakes Mercedes; Grabs 2nd Position
After BMW, Audi India has now overtook Mercedes Benz in sales. BMW is at the first spot, Audi at second and Mercedes has been pushed to 3rd spot.

Unlike BMW and Audi, Mercedes has been in India for almost 15 years. Its other German counterparts joined the race late with both Both BMW and Audi starting their India operations in 2007.
Sales reports of the first quarter of 2012 (January-March) reveal that BMW lead the market by selling 2,369 units, Audi second with sales of 2,269 and Mercedes in the third position selling 2,130 units. BMW and Audi expending their operations and launching new products in the luxury class segment could be the reason behind the fall in sales of Mercedes.
However, defending the report, Mercedes Benz India sales & marketing director Debasis Mitra
said: "Our customers do not compromise, and 'strip down' models are not for them. "We are not selling commodity but luxury. Numbers are not the prime focus today."
