Bright Coloured Cars Safer Than Dark Ones-Research

Safety is an important factor when deciding to buy a car. People consider many features such as brakes, air bags, ABS, EBD, seat belts etc while deciding on which car is safer and is more ideal to buy. Here is another factor that buyers need to consider while choosing a safer car. Its colour.

A research conducted in Australia has indicated that bright coloured cars tend to get involved in lesser number of road accidents that dark coloured cars. According to this research which looked in to the data of all accidents that occurred between 1987 and 2004, black cars have a 12% more chance of being involved in an accident than other cars.

The research has shown that bright coloured cars are more easy to spot and are more visible in the dark. Some bright paint colours for cars include white, yellow, orange, florescent green etc. While white is a colour that is preferred highly by car buyers, the rest of the colours are not very popular. Black and grey are also preferred highly. But people do not realize they are buying themselves a comparatively unsafe car when compared with bright coloured cars.

Bright coloured cars can be spotted faster than black cars. A possible accident can be avoided just by the extra moments drivers can get for spotting the car just before a collision. We all know that the possibility of a road accident is higher during the night due to visibility issues. And if you have parked your dark coloured car in an unlit road, you are at risk of being hit by a moving vehicle.

But if you have a bright coloured car, then the possibility of such an accident is very less. Some people do not likes bright colours. However they can ignore their dislikes as the choice of your car colour not only reflects your personality but also keeps you safe.

A white car is considered the safest but many people avoid buying such a car as it is a colour most widely used in government vehicles and taxis. The rather unsafe colour of grey or silver is preferred as it is considered a luxurious colour.

Yellow, orange, florescent green are very rare colours on our Indian roads and yet such bright colours will offer road users greater protection.
