World's Smallest Car – Peel Set For Relaunch
The Peel is a three wheeler single seater powered by a 50cc petrol engine. It is being marketed as a city car for the individual. It has only one door to its left and has one single headlight. The company claims the Peel can accommodate one driver and his shopping bag.
The Peel will be available in two variants – the trident which is the entry level variant and the top end variant is the P50. Both variants do not have a reverse gear. If you need to go back , all you need to do is get out and pull it yourself. Since the Peel has only one rear wheel, it has a smaller turning radius and can be maneuvered well on tight roads.
The 50cc engine in the Peel can generate 3.5bhp and can power the car to a top speed of a mind blowing (pun intended) 24kmph. If you want a more powerful version you can also get yourself an electric powered Peel that can reach a top speed of 45kmph. The electric peel has a range of 80 kilometres per charge.
The company building the Peel is called Peel engineering, but it is not the company that used to originally build this small car. The original developer of the Peel 50 was Peel Engineering Company based in the Isle of Man.
The Peel 50 costs a whopping £15,600 or Rs.12 lakhs. You can easily buy at least eight Tata Nanos for this money and still have money to spend. The company building this small car has said the Peel 50 will be a collector's car and hence the high price.
