Maruti To Get 1000cc Diesel Engine For Wagon R?
Maruti Suzuki is slowly picking up speed in developing new diesel cars for the Indian car buyers. The leading Indian carmaker which saw its market share decline as it did not have many diesel cars in its line-up.
Maruti Suzuki has bounced back in recent times after the success of its diesel variants of the Swift, Ritz and Swift DZire.
All diesel cars from Maruti are starting from the compact car segment. Which means there is no small diesel car in Maruti Suzuki's line-up. This situation could change soon if Maruti Suzuki decides to use a new diesel engine being developed by Fiat.
Fiat is said to be working on a new 1000cc diesel engine specifically to suit the requirements of Maruti Suzuki.
The engine will most likely be used in Maruti Suzuki's small cars starting with the Wagon R.
A Wagon R diesel will make perfect sense for both Maruti Suzuki and its customers. The Wagon R is an ideal small car that has been liked for its ample space, agile handling and low cost maintenance.
To add to this if you add the improved mileage of a diesel engine along with the lower price of diesel, the Wagon R diesel could most likely also become Maruti Suzuki's best selling car.
If the speculation about the Wagon R diesel turns out to be true, in all likelihood the car should be launched by mid-2013.

The company is working on the face-lifts to the Alto K10 and the new Wagon R. You might soon see a diesel engine in both, of not in more small cars too.
