Bugatti Legends Veyron Jean-Pierre Wimille Edition

Bugatti Veyron is perhaps the single most model with a long list of special editions and the French marquee is not about to stop just yet. In fact, Bugatti has announced yet another special edition model based Veyron. What's more, 5 more will come in the next 12 months.

The 6 special Veyrons will be part of a line of limited edition models under the title ‘Bugatti Legends". So named because each car will commemorate a legend from the racing world associated with Bugatti. The first of the six special edition Veyrons is the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse ‘Jean-Pierre Wimille'.

As the name states, this model is based on the Vitesse convertible model - officially the fastest open top in the world, having achieved a top speed of 408.84 km/h with its top open.

The man behind the name

It is the last part of the name which renders the supercar special - Jean-Pierre Wimille. He was a French racing driver who was for most part of his life, associated with Bugatti and more importantly, won two Le Mans 24 Hours titles for Bugatti, in 1937 and 1939.

The car Wimille drove during first win was a 1937 blue Bugatti 57G Tank. It is the same racing blue colour that the special edition Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse wears.

The second 24 Hours Le Man win came in a 1939 Bugatti 57C Tank. Apart from the Le man victories, Wimille won several other races for Bugatti including a win at the Algerian Grand Prix in his very first year, the La Turbie hill climb in 1935, driving a Bugatti T 59, etc,.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse ‘Jean-Pierre Wimille' will be showcased first in California during the Monterey Auto Week, next month. Later, the car will appear at The Quail and The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, on August 16-18.

Production of Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse ‘Jean-Pierre Wimille' will be extremely limited, to just three units.

The Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse is powered by an 8.0 liter W16 engine rated at a massive 1,184 HP and 1,500 Nm of torque. The car can reach 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds.

About the ‘Bugatti Legends' special edition cars, he said: "This brand has been in large part defined by outstanding personalities and historically resonant moments.
