Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, a fully owned subsidiary of Germany's Daimler AG has announced that it will introduce 17 new commercial vehicle models in the country in 2014. These models will be sold under the brand name BharatBenz.

The announcement was made by DICV Managing Director and CEO Marc Llistosella, who said, "Daimler India Commercial Vehicle is setting yet another milestone. Beginning today, the heavy-duty models in the weight classes from 25 to 31 tonne are joined by medium duty-trucks from 9 to 12 tonne."

The announcement comes after the company's success in the Indian commercial vehicle market in the last three months during which it has managed to sell more than 1000 heavy duty trucks in the country.

Llistosella spoke to the press during the launch event of a line-up of medium duty trucks, stating that the news models have been developed, keeping in mind, tough Indian road conditions and that these new models would also set new standards in fuel efficiency.

The new trucks, manufactured in the company's INR 4,400 crore, 400 acre Oragadam plant, near Chennai, Tamil Nadu will be offered with 140 HP and 170 HP engines and they will be at least 10 percent more fuel efficient than their competitors.

Llistosella said, "Our customers trust our reliable products. This is demonstrated by our sales successes for the heavy-duty Bharat Benz trucks."
