Hyundai Apologizes For Controversial Suicide Ad

Its Hyundai this time which has attracted bad publicity with a controversial TV advertisement. The commercial, titled "Pipe Job", depicts a man trying to commit suicide by inhaling toxic exhaust fumes. In the ad the man directs the exhaust fumes into the car's cabin and locks himself up. But he is later shown coming out of his garage unharmed. Hyundai tried to advertise the vehicle's - Hyundai ix35 - clean emission, but choosing suicide as the theme is never a good idea.

Quite naturally several people took exception and thanks to the internet soon everyone was found talking about it. Hyundai has now apologized for its ad and issued an official statement.

"Hyundai Motor deeply and sincerely apologizes for the offensive viral ad. The ad was created by an affiliate advertising agency, Innocean Europe, without Hyundai's request or approval. It runs counter to our values as a company and as members of the community. We are very sorry for any offense or distress the video caused. More to the point, Hyundai apologizes to those who have been personally impacted by tragedy," the automaker said in its statement.

Since then Hyundai has repeatedly attempted to take down the video from the internet, but several copies have cropped up in its place. You can see the commercial for yourself below if the video is still available.
