A 'Black Box' To Warn Drivers Before Breakdown

The device, called RAC Advanced, is the size of a matchbox and fits inside a car's computer system from where it transmits collected data. If a vehicle breaks down the device immediately alerts nearby patrolmen, along with the particular nature of the problem. It also updates RAC database and drivers receive a phone call, email or text message.
The ‘black box' is capable of detecting problems in a car's engine, gearbox, batteries, alternators, brake wear, throttles and filters.
RAC Advanced has been fitted in 1,700 RAC patrol vehicles already and more vehicles will be equipped with it soon.
"Offering peace of mind in a box, RAC Advance will revolutionise how we deal with our members," RAC technical director David Bizley said.
RAC is a private company based in the United Kingdom which provides automotive services such as roadside assistance and general insurance.
