Sebastien Loeb Sets Pikes Peak Hill Climb Record
On Sunday, June 30 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA, French racing driver Sebastian Loeb proved to the world how much experience counts. The nine time World Rally Champion set a new world record time by completing Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in 8:13:878. To understand the magnitude of the achievement, you should know that the previous record time, set during the 2012 PPIHC, was 9:46.181, by Rhys Millen.
While everyone expected something spectacular from the returning Peugeot and their seasoned driver Sebastien Loeb, what we witnessed was beyond anyone's imagination. "I felt really good in the car, and I pushed it hard from the start to the finish," Loeb said. "I made no mistakes, and I felt the race was really good. To drive a car like this and race up here (to the top) is what makes this special. It's amazing."

Sebastien Loeb achieved the unbelievable time in his 875 HP Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak in the Unlimited class, travelling at an average speed of 140 km/h.

Loeb's time of 8:13.878 is the fastest overall, giving him the rare privilege of being the only man in the 8 minute club at Pikes Peak.

In second place was last year's winner Rhys Millen, who broke his own record time from last year. Millen came a distant second, in 9:02.192.

Rhys Millen's machine was a 2013 Hyundai PM580T and he achieved an average speed of 128.22 km/h.

In third place was Jean-Philippe Dayraut from France, who reached the top in 9:42.740.

Dayraut also performed better than last year and easily broke his own record, in a 2011 Mini Countryman.

Pikes Peak International Climb witnesses drivers race to the top of the mountain, participating in different segments. The Course measures 19.98 km.

One reason for the improved times posted by everyone is because the entire stretch has now been paved, unlike last year when the last bit was still dirt.
