Honda March 2014 India Sales Report Shows Ever Climbing Sales

The year 2013 was a good one for Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL). The Japanese automaker which had lost its commanding position in the Indian automobile scene after the discontinuation of the City sedan and the dismal performance of the Jazz hatchback has come back strong.

The automaker has come back stronger than ever, with the highest ever annual sales and the highest ever monthly sales, in the domestic market.

The month of March 2014 saw the company sell 18,426 units, which is almost twice that of the 10,044 units sold in the corresponding month the previous year, registering a growth of 83.4 percent.

Meanwhile, annual sales during FY 2013-14 stand at an impressive 1,34,339 units as against 73,483 units during FY 2012-13. That's once again a growth of 83 percent.

Honda Cars India's strong performance has come almost exclusively on the excellent performance of its two new cars in the market. Early in 2013 it was the Amaze compact sedan that started the raise and it has continued to sell very well. Then, early this year came the all new City sedan with a diesel engine and instantly we saw sales numbers swell.

The all new Honda City even managed become the best selling car in its category immediately after its launch.

The company also increased its export volumes by 121% during FY 2013 - 14 with 5798 units as compared to 2622 units in the FY 2012 - 13.

Expressing delight on the company's sales performance, Mr. Jnaneswar Sen, Sr. Vice President, Marketing and Sales said, "We are thankful to our customers for the great response we have achieved from them for our two big launches of Amaze and All New City during the past financial year. The year also witnessed our entry into the diesel segment with i-DTEC diesel engine technology which has received an overwhelming response from the market. With both manufacturing plants in operation, as well as two new models, the stylish mid-sized MPV, Honda Mobilio and the all-new Honda Jazz due for launch this financial year, we look forward to another year of growth." "We will increase our dealer network by 35% in this year by reaching out to more tier 2 & tier 3 markets which will be instrumental for our growth," he added. The company currently has 170 facilities in 107 cities in its network.
