Maruti 800 Production Ends; Spare Parts To Be Available For A Decade
It was an incredible 31 years ago that Maruti, with the help of Suzuki, brought out the 800. A small hatchback based on the Suzuki Fronte and powered by an 800cc engine (which also gave the car its name).

The very last Maruti 800 rolled out of the company's Gurgaon, Haryana manufacturing facility on January 18, 2014. This ‘Firebrick Red' 800 went to a dealership in Shillong.
Production of the Maruti 800 was stopped in 2010 in 13 Indian cities including the metros when the BSIV emission norm was implemented. But the iconic car continued being sold in other parts until the emission norm came into effect throughout the country.

Maruti 800 is one of the most successful cars in India and is one of the longest selling cars in country, second only to the HM Ambassador. Maruti has sold nearly 3 million units of the 800 since 1983 and the majority of these went on to becomes the first owned by an Indian family or the first car an Indian drove.
Even in 2013, 20,754 units of the Maruti 800 were sold, standing as testimony to the car's popularity. Considering there are still thousands of Maruti 800s on the road the company has announced it will continue supplying spare parts for the next eight to ten years.
