Euro NCAP: Safest Cars Of 2014
European New Car Safety Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) is a body that tests cars for the standard of safety they offer.
2014 has been a year with quite a few new vehicle launches around the world and Euro NCAP has been busy testing most of them.
Euro NCAP tests vehicles in different crash scenarios and rates these cars with stars, up to 5 in terms of safety and the protection it provides to the occupants.
Out of cars that have been tested in 2014, some of them have really managed to offer very good protection. Here are 5 cars, one from each category that was awarded the highest safety rating.
Supermini class: Skoda Fabia
Small off-roader: Land Rover Discovery Sport
MPV: VW Golf Sportsvan
Small family car: Nissan Qashqai crossover
Large family car: Mercedes C-Class
Michiel van Ratingen, Euro NCAP's Secretary General said, "Congratulations to those manufacturers whose cars are in our Best in Class list for last year. It shows a commitment to offer the highest levels of safety which, nowadays, means active accident prevention as well as top-rate crash protection. As these technologies become more widespread and costs fall, we will see more manufacturers follow the example of the class leaders and offer the best all-round safety to all consumers."
