Electric Avenue: Elon Musk Confirms The Tesla Model Y (Compact SUV)
Tesla CEO, Elon Musk took to twitter and announced that the next model from their stable will be the Model Y, a compact SUV based on the Model 3 sedan. Musk also announced plans for making an electric semi truck and minibus that will use the chassis of the Model X.
The new models are expected to be launched mid-2017. Tesla's plans seem aggressive, considering that mid-2017 is when the company wanted to begin production of the first mass-market car, the Model 3.

The production variant of Model 3 is likely to hit the roads only by 2018, which means the Model Y compact SUV will likely not see daylight before the end of the decade.
On the pricing front, we expect the Model Y compact SUV to be priced in the same region as the Model 3 sedan, as Musk earlier had indicated that it is unlikely Tesla will build a car cheaper than the Model 3 sedan.
For now, if the plans are executed, Tesla's line-up will consist of the Model S, 3, X, and Y.
Oops! This makes us think now -- was the model naming intentional by Tesla to read as "SEXY". No matter what it is, Tesla cars are headturners, aren't they?
