No More Overloaded Trucks On The National Highways
The National Highways Authority Of India (NHAI) has banned the passing of overload trucks on the Pune-Solapur highway.
The ministry of road transport and highways has said the overloaded trucks and trailers damage the road infrastructure, which cause a huge expense in terms of maintenance. The ministry also added, the overloaded trucks are one of the major causes for the increase in number of road accidents.
Officials said, the overloaded vehicles are also dangerous for other vehicles and road users, besides increasing fuel consumption and pollution levels. As per the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the vehicles carrying excess load has to be offloaded, and the driver or owner of the vehicle has to bear the fine.
The ministry's notification does not allow overloaded vehicles on the Pune-Solapur highway. The notification says, if the vehicle is overloaded, it will not be allowed to use the highway or enter to the toll plaza.
The driver of the vehicle will have to pay 10 times the toll charges and the vehicle will be allowed to pass only if the excess load is removed. The NHAI is planning to implement it on the other highways too.
