Supercars Get Nabbed — Need For Speed Or Police Glitch?
Chennai Police has impounded ten sports cars for involving in a race on the public roads and driving rashly. But the drivers deny the charges.
Chennai Police impounded ten high-end sports cars including Porsche, Lamborghini and Ferrari for allegedly over-speeding on the East Coast Road. The cars were driven by men aged below 30 years.

The police stated that the sports cars were involved in illegal street racing on the stretch near Akkarai, whereas the drivers claim that it was just a breakfast event organised by a car company.

The problem started when the driver of Lamborghini, identified as Raghav Krishnan was arrested by police after they claimed that his vehicle had run over the foot of a police inspector.

Police charged Krishnan for rash and negligent driving, and criminal intimidation. Police stated that there were several complaints from the residents about car and two-wheeler racing on the ECR, so a police team started checking vehicles on Sunday morning.

On Sunday morning police tried to stop the cars near Akkarai. However, vehicles didn't stop, and more police personnel were deployed to stop the cars at Uthandi toll gate.

Neelankarai Traffic Enforcement Inspector Soundararajan said, "The car users refused to show papers. They didn't cooperate with police who were acting on complaints from the local residents. We received complaints from locals that they drive in rash and negligent manner which is dangerous for pedestrians."
