Ford Special Service Plug-In Hybrid Police Car Revealed
American carmaker Ford has revealed the Special Service Plug-in Hybrid sedan for Police and Government use in the US.
American carmaker Ford has revealed the Special Service Plug-in Hybrid sedan, for police and government use in the United States. The new Special Service sedan is the first ever plug-in hybrid from Ford, and comes 7 months after the blue oval brand revealed the first hybrid cop car to bear its badge in April.

According to Ford, the new Special Service Plug-in Hybrid sedan can go for 21 miles (34km) without sipping a drop of petrol. In electric-only mode, the plug-in hybrid cop car has a top speed of 85mph (137kph).

Providing the power for the electric-only mode is a 7.6-kilowatt-hour battery that can be charged in just 2.5 hours on a 240-volt, level-two charger but will also charge using regular wall sockets.
Once the battery runs down, the vehicle is powered by its 2.0-litre petrol engine which has a range surpassing 500 miles (805km) which means this plug-in-hybrid can give chase to trespassers for a rather long time.

The new Ford Special Service Plug-in Hybrid sedan is not meant for normal cops but instead will be offered to higher ranked officers like chiefs, detectives, and other higher-ups who you want usually find chasing criminals on the streets.

Inside, the Ford Plug-In Hybrid features heavy-duty cloth front seats with reduced bolsters, for officer comfort, and rear anti-stab plates, plus vinyl rear seating and flooring. Other highlights include a reinforced top tray for mounting equipment, metal console mounting plate, red and white task lighting in the overhead console, police engine-idle feature, unique alloy wheels and an auxiliary power distribution box in the trunk.

The Ford Plug-In Hybrid Police Car also gets a special dark-car feature turns off interior lighting and allows the dash cluster to be dimmed 100 percent for surveillance.
