Honda Civic: Sedan Impresses With The Safety Test Ratings
Honda Civic was crash tested by Euro NCAP, and the sedan received four stars.
The new Honda Civic was crash tested for safety ratings, and the car received a commendable four stars.
Euro NCAP, the agency which crashes tests cars for its safety features, tests cars based on four criteria: Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Pedestrian and Safety Assist.

The model tested was a Honda Civic 1.0 SE Right Hand Drive (RHD). For the adult occupant criteria, the Honda Civic aced the test with 92 percent. The passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal offset test.
The readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger. Honda noted that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and those sat in different positions.

As for the full-width rigid barrier test, protection of the driver was good or adequate. However, for the rear passenger, dummy readings of chest compression indicated a weak level of protection for this part of the body.
The Civic scored the maximum for the side barrier and side pole tests, with good protection of all critical body areas. The autonomous emergency braking system, which is standard, performed well in tests of its functionality at the low speeds typical of city driving at which many whiplash injuries are caused, with accidents avoided at all test speeds.

As for child occupant criteria, the Honda Civic scored 67 percent. Much of the lower score was attributed to side impact. But, universal restraints failed the installation test on the front passenger seat due to the position of the buckle. Contrarily, all restraint types for which the Civic is designed could be installed and accommodated in the car.
On safety assist criteria, the Civic scored 88 percent. The autonomous emergency braking system performed admirably in the tests of its functionality at highways speeds, with accidents avoided or mitigated at all test speeds.

The Honda Civic has a seatbelt reminder system for the front and rear seats. Also, the intelligent speed limiter is standard on the Civic. This shows the local speed limit to the driver, who can then choose to set the limiter appropriately. A lane keep assistance system warns the driver when the car is drifting out of the lane and gently steers the car away from the lane marking.

Even as Honda looks to bring the Civic to India, the crash test or the safety test result is positive and reveals that the Civic is safe and well built.
