Hyundai’s Next-Generation Tucson Fuel Cell Gets A Massive Range Boost
Hyundai’s new Tucson fuel cell SUV will come with 30 percent better range than the current version. The next-generation Tucson fuel cell SUV is expected to hit a range of 557km on a full tank.
South Korean automaker, Hyundai is working on an improved fuel cell for its updated version of the Tucson SUV. The new Tucson Fuel Cell SUV is now expected to travel up to 557 km on a full tank.

Previously, the Tucson Fuel Cell SUV could go as far as 426 km which gives the next-generation SUV a 30 percent bump in its range and travel 557km before the next fuel fill.

The new Tucson fuel cell vehicle is expected to be launched in January 2018 and if Hyundai is able to pull it off, then the new Tucson fuel cell SUV will make it to the highest range fuel cell production vehicle.

Hyundai's eco-friendly development director Ahn Byung-ki said that the launch of the new Tucson Fuel Cell will clash with the 2018 Winter Olympic Game to be held in South Korea.

With the range of 557km, the Tucson Fuel Cell betters the Toyota Mirai which comes with a range of 500km on a full tank.

Hyundai is also looking to launch its fuel cell-powered commercial bus in 2017 which puts it directly in competition with Toyota which is looking launch a fuel cell bus as well.

Hyundai is supposedly looking to price the 2018 fuel cell Tucson SUV at about $50,000 (approx. Rs 34 lakh).

Hyundai's first all-electric vehicle, the Ioniq is offered in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric options. The electric version of the Ioniq is currently leading the cumulative sales of EVs in the road in South Korea.
