American carmaker Jeep has launched its 'Made-in-India' Compass in India, and the pricing has opened up new avenues for car buyers in the country.

Prices for the Compass SUV starts at Rs 14.95 lakh and goes up to Rs 20.65 lakh ex-showroom (India). The Jeep Compass has garnered 5,000 bookings indicating that the SUV from Jeep will trigger a new price war among its rivals.

But what do the variants of the Jeep Compass offer to the buyer? Let us understand each of the Jeep variants to have clarity on what is offered for the money that you are willing to pay.

The Jeep Compass comes in three main variants: Sport, Longitude and Limited, which is further classified into sub-variants based on optional features and equipment. Hence, you have a total of 7 variants: Sport, Longitude, Longitude Option, Limited, Limited Option, Limited 4x4 and Limited 4x4 Option.

Jeep is offering 1.4-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engines on the Compass, while the petrol engine is available only on Sport and Limited variants, the diesel unit is available across all variants.

Jeep Compass Sport

The entry-level variant of the Jeep Compass is the Sport trim; the exterior receives most of the features such as the iconic 7-slat front grille with chrome surrounds, body coloured ORVMs with turn indicators, body coloured door handles, dual halogen headlamps with LED DRLs, rear spoilers and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, you receive 5-inch touchscreen display with UConnect that offers Bluetooth and AUX-IN connectivity, voice command and the inbuilt compass.

There is also 4-speakers, 2 USB ports, and a 12V power outlet. Among the comfort and convenience features, the Sport variant of the Jeep Compass receives all-black interiors, height adjustable driver seat, one touch up/down front power windows, full-length centre console with sliding arm rest and remote keyless entry.

As for safety, the Sport variant is equipped with electronic parking brakes, ABS with EBD, driver and passenger airbags, traction control, electronic stability control (ESC), electronic roll mitigation, rear defogger, and double crank prevention system, as well as hill-start assist and all-season tyres.

Jeep Compass Longitude

The second variant, the Longitude comes with similar exterior features as the Sport variant of the Jeep Compass. The difference is the 17-inch alloy wheels, front cornering fog lamps and rear fog lamps.

Inside the cabin, you have additional features apart from what is available on the Sport variant such as passive keyless entry and engine start/ stop button, new sandstorm sedoso fabric interior and dark saddle stitching and instead of 4-speakers you get 6.

As for safety features, the Jeep Compass Longitude variant is the same as the Sport variant with no additions.

There is also the Longitude Option variant; this variant comes with roof rails, Bi-functional projector headlamps, rear parcel shelf, 7-inch touchscreen system, instead of the 5-inch, equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, active carbon air filter and LED position lights.

Jeep Compass Limited

The top-variant of the Jeep Compass is the Limited trim, further classified into Limited and Limited 4x4 with option package offered in both the variants.

Most of the features have been carried over from the Longitude variant of the Jeep Compass but with add-ons such as LED tail lamps, LED position lights, and reverse parking camera on the exterior.

The Jeep Compass Limited Option variant receives additional features such as dual tone roof, and Bi-Xenon intensity discharge headlamps.

Inside, the Jeep Compass Limited variant comes with Ski-Grey Mckinley leather interior with leather seats; leather wrapped steering wheel and door scuff plates. The Limited 4x4 receives add-ons like an all-wheel-drive system, Selec-Terrain driving modes selector, and six airbags among others.

Jeep Compass Engine Specifications & Gearbox

The Jeep Compass petrol engine is powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine which produces 160bhp and 250Nm of torque and comes paired either to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DCT gearbox.

The Jeep Compass diesel engine is a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit which develops 170bhp and 350Nm of torque and comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
