The Renault-Nissan alliance has revealed its sales figures for the first half of 2017, and the coalition has emerged as the world's largest car maker.

The Renault-Nissan alliance recorded a growth of seven percent and sold 5.2 million vehicles. The cumulative sales figures comprise of Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Dacia.

    The French-Japanese alliance has beaten its German rival Volkswagen in the first six months of 2017. Volkswagen sold 5.1 million vehicles till June 2017 and is now in the second place.

    The rise in sales figures for Renault-Nissan alliance came from Renault models such as Clio, Megane and Captur. The Dacia Duster and Sandero also recorded healthy sales figures. The French automaker sold 1.8 million vehicles.

    Nissan's contribution to the overall sales accounted for 2.8 million units including cars and trucks. The best-selling models were X-Trail, Sentra and Teana. It's best markets were China, Japan and the United States.

    Mitsubishi recorded a sales figure of 4.95 lakh vehicles, with a high demand for the Outlander and the Pajero Sport in the ASEAN region. The alliance also recorded strong growth in the electric vehicle segment.

    The electric cars accounted for 4.8 lakh units which comprise of Renault Zoe, Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi i-MiEV and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

    Renault-Nissan Alliance Chief, Carlos Ghosn said, "We will continue to leverage our significant economies of scale and global market presence to deliver valuable synergies for our member companies this year, while maintaining a strong technology lineup and offering customers breakthrough electric models."
