India-Spec New Honda CR-V Diesel Specifications Revealed
Honda is all geared up to launch the new CR-V SUV in India sometime in 2019.
While the Honda CR-V is not new to India, the most significant aspect of India-bound Honda CR-V is that the SUV will be offered with a diesel engine for the first time in India.
Now, Autocar has revealed the new Honda CR-V diesel specifications for the Indian market.
Presently, the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour lead the segment, and the diesel model is the most sought after.
The Honda CR-V will offer an alternative to the Fortuner and the Endeavour for SUV buyers in India.
Honda's boss in India, Yoichiro Ueno is quite optimistic; "we are expecting quite a big response to the CR-V as this segment is diesel-oriented."
To price the Honda CR-V diesel competitively, the carmaker may launch a lower powered version.
In markets like Thailand, the 2018 Honda CR-V is powered by a 158bhp version of the 1.6-litre Earth Dreams diesel engine.
The India-bound new Honda CR-V diesel specifications are expected to be a de-tuned version.
In the Philippines, a 118bhp powered version is currently on sale, which could make it to the Indian market as well.

While the 158bhp version has two turbochargers, the 118bhp version employs only a single turbo, making the new CR-V more affordable for the Indian car buyers.
While we may think that India might be getting a lowered powered diesel engine, the torque output is not too different.
The 118bhp single turbo engine produces 300Nm, while the 158bhp twin-turbo engine produces 350Nm.
As the gap between the torque figures of both the engines is not significantly different, the acceleration is not affected that much as well.
The single turbo diesel engine of the Honda CR-V can sprint from 0-100kph in 11.2 seconds, while the twin-turbo diesel unit can help sprint the CR-V in 9.7 seconds, a difference of 1.5 seconds only.
Both the versions come mated with Honda's new 9-speed automatic gearbox, making the new CR-V a lot easier to drive through city driving conditions.
