New Bajaj Electric Scooter Spotted Testing: Could Be More Affordable Than The Bajaj Chetak

From the overall outlook, the new electric scooter from Bajaj seems more like an affordable alternative to the pricier Bajaj Chetak electric scooter.

From the photos, the new electric scooter from Bajaj seems to prioritise cost-effectiveness. Unlike, the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter, the rearview mirrors on the new electric scooter are much simpler ones and the headlights are housed in the front apron to further reduce the cost.

Other design traits include a swingarm-mounted number plate and a compact tail unit that houses the rear taillamps and turn indicators. However, the swingarm used in the new electric scooter resembles the one in Bajaj Chetak.

This could mean the new electric scooter could be using a similar powertrain as the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter.

Bajaj Chetak is powered by a 4 kW electric motor and the power required to run that electric motor is supplied by a 2.9 kWh battery pack.

Apart from that, the new electric scooter from Bajaj could also use fibreglass body panels instead of the steel panels as seen on the Bajaj Chetak to further keep the production cost down to aggressively price the new electric scooter.

The new electric scooter also features a flat footboard and split seats which could hint at a slightly more utilitarian approach from Bajaj.

The new electric scooter could also use the same instrumentation as the Bajaj Chetak, however, Bajaj could potentially use a more basic instrument cluster to further reduce the overall production cost.

Bajaj has already trademarked the names "Fluir" and "Fluor" a while ago, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the new electric scooter from Bajaj coming to the market with any of the above nametags.

At present, the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is priced at Rs 1.87 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune) before any subsidies. However, after factoring in the FAME-II subsidies and state subsidies, the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter costs Rs 1.23 lakh (on-road, Pune), which is still substantially more than the Ola S1 priced at Rs 94,999 (ex-showroom, Pune, after FAME-II subsidies and state subsidies).

Thoughts About The New Bajaj Electric Scooter

As seen from the spy shots, the new Bajaj electric scooter could be priced at par with the Ola S1 electric scooter. Apart from that, a few design traits such as flat footboard and split seats suggest that the new electric scooter from Bajaj could also be slightly utilitarian in nature.
