MG Comet And Suzuki Jimny’s Lovechild - The Baojun Yep Electric SUV Revealed
The Baojun Yep Electric Car, produced by SAIC-GM-Wuling, was supposed to meet the eyes of the audience at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show but, unfortunately, it did not. Now, however, the car has been revealed and it's quite an interesting-looking vehicle.
The Baojun Yep will be released in five colour options that represent the shades of the 24-hour cycle. These shades are Sunrise (Yellow), Early Morning (Green), Cloud (White), Neon (Pink), and Deep Space (Black).

While official launch dates are yet to be revealed, it is expected to be launched soon as a few units have already started reaching dealerships in China. The car will be priced at around 90,000 Yuan (Rs. 10.65 Lakh).
Specs and Range
The Baojun Yep Electric SUV, powered by a single electric motor, puts out 68bhp and 140Nm of peak torque. The electric motor draws energy from a 28.1kWh LFP battery. With this powertrain set-up, the Yep e-SUV can reach speeds up to 100km/h and travel up to 303 kilometres on a single charge. The range figures are certified by the CLTC.

Design
The Baojun Yep is 3,381mm long, 1,685mm wide, and 1,721mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,110 mm. With the car being so wide, it can easily be assumed that the interiors come with a lot of space.
We find traits of the Suzuki Jimny while looking at the front grille, front bumper and wheel arches. But, coming to the design of the body, it is more rounded and has a lot more smoother features. The Jimny, however, is a lot more straight-cut.
When comparing it to the MG Comet, we find similarities in terms of the overall design of the car, with both having a very upright and boxy-looking design.
Moving to the rear, the Baojun Yep has an extremely unique feature. It has a design of a smart watch, with the screen of the watch having options to display videos, road hazards, customized texts and pictures.

The screen has dimensions of 300mm x 256mm and the strap of the watch is 1050mm long and 260mm wide. The watch strap can be personalized using various colours and designs.
Thoughts On The Baojun Yep Electric SUV
An interesting-looking car, to say the least; the Baojun Yep Electric has some quirky features to please the lot, but may not be safe for others on the road!
With the Indian EV market growing rapidly, there is a possibility for the Baojun Yep Electric SUV to see our land but, nothing official has been said. As similar-looking cars have been released, all we can do is wait to see what the Chinese brand has in store for us.
