Genius Idea For Off-Roading Front Wheel Drive Cars: A Must-Watch Video For All Car Users
While most car users in India do not drive off-road, sometimes situations push people to take the beaten path. In such conditions, having a 4X4 or all-wheel-drive capability is an additional bonus.
However, 4X4 and all-wheel-drive cars are expensive and demand a higher running cost. As such, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and front-wheel-drive (FWD) cars are very popular not only in India but across the globe.

Between the RWD and FWD cars, in certain conditions, having a RWD setup helps. In fact, while tackling steep slopes as shown in the viral video, sporting an RWD setup is a major boon.
Looking at the viral video, we can see a Maruti Suzuki Alto hatchback trying to tackle a steep slope. To make matters worse, the steep slope is covered with mud, making it extremely difficult for Alto's tyres to find decent traction.
However, on the second attempt, the Maruti Suzuki Alto driver successfully managed to conquer the steep slope by going in reverse. While this may surprise many viewers, in reality, the Alto driver played by the rules of physics.
Analysing the situation, driving through the steep slope shifts the weight of the car to the rear. As such, the front wheels do not have enough weight on them to provide the required traction. However, by going in reverse, the weight is transferred to the front wheels, providing decent traction.
Thoughts About Alto Off-Roading
In the video, the quick thinking and basic realisation of the problem helped the Alto driver tackle the steep slope. That being said, in most conditions, a FWD car is easier to off-road with compared to a RWD car. Also, FWD cars are easier to handle in low-traction situations.
