Maruti Suzuki eVX Electric SUV: Marutis Next Big Thing
The forthcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX EV, an electric SUV, is poised to rival the Hyundai Creta EV in its segment The anticipated launch of this electrified automobile is slated for early 2025. Maruti Suzuki first showed off the eVX concept at the Auto Expo in January 2023, and later that year, the vehicle was spotted during test runs in Poland.
Just earlier this month, the Maruti Suzuki eVX electric SUV was displayed in a nearly finished format at the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show, along with the new Swift. We've previously shared the sneak peeks of the new Swift undergoing testing in India. In this article, we delve into the first leaked images of the new Maruti eVX electric SUV being tested on Indian roads.

The first leaked images of the Maruti eVX are credited to the Speed Shifter channel. The electric SUV was spotted being tested in Gurgaon, close to the company plant. The new eVX is being built on an adapted platform from Toyota's 40PL electric skateboard architecture, internally referred to as 27PL. The production is slated to happen at the Maruti Suzuki plant in Gujarat, with competitive pricing expected due to a high level of localization.
The Maruti Suzuki eVX EV SUV will measure approximately 4,300mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,600mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700mm. The exterior design is reminiscent of the concept version, featuring a stand-up front facade, a covered front grille, L-shaped headlamps, wrap-around tail lamps, rear door handles fixed on the C pillars, and an in-built roof spoiler. The roofline narrows at the rear, giving it a coupe SUV look.

The interior of the eVX is equipped with a two-spoke steering wheel, power window switches, adjustable power seats, ample storage, horizontally placed AC vents, a tall dashboard design with a floating central digital instrument console, and a large touchscreen infotainment panel.
Advanced features such as a 360-degree camera, ambient lighting, a multi-function steering wheel, rearview mirror, and a rotary drive mode selector are also included. The vehicle rides on silver-finished multi-spoke alloy wheels and offers multiple airbags and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) for passenger safety.
Performance and Competition
The Maruti Suzuki eVX concept is powered by a 60 kWh battery, offering a range of 550 kilometers. However, the production version will probably come with a slightly smaller 48 kWh battery, providing around 400 kilometers of real-world range.
As for its competition, the Maruti Suzuki eVX EV SUV will make its debut as the company's first electric vehicle and will face off against the Hyundai Creta EV and Seltos EV. Toyota is also developing its version in partnership with Maruti, although the eVX is anticipated to reach the market earlier.
Other competitors in the electric SUV space include the Tata Nexon EV MAX and the Mahindra XUV400. The pricing details are yet to be officially disclosed, but estimates suggest that the Maruti Suzuki eVX could be priced between Rs 18-22 lakh (ex-showroom).
DriveSpark Thinks
In conclusion, the Maruti Suzuki eVX stands as a significant step towards India’s electric vehicle revolution. With its competitive features, design, and pricing, it is expected to carve a niche for itself in the burgeoning electric SUV market of India.
