2024 Swift To Have A Mileage Of 40km/l – Courtesy Of New Z Series Engine
The Maruti Suzuki Swift is currently in its third generation and it continues to be one of the best-selling hatchbacks in India.
Moreover, the next-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift is expected to make its debut in 2024 and the model has already been spotted testing more than a few times in Europe and Asia.

While the next-generation Swift hatchback has been noted for its more mature design, it is now confirmed that the model will also feature a new powertrain. This new engine will replace the current 1.2-litre K-series engine, which has been present since 2010 with minor changes.
This new engine in the next-generation Swift hatchback is codenamed 'Z12'. This engine is also expected to be around 1.2 litres in capacity, however, it will be a 3-cylinder engine instead of a 4-cylinder configuration.
Since the new engine will have a similar capacity as the current powertrain with one less cylinder, each cylinder of the new engine will have more capacity (around 400cc). This is likely to increase the Volumetric efficiency of the powertrain, and hence improve the torque figures.
That being said, the current 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, K-Series engine is known for its free-revving nature. This characteristic is expected to be lost with the new Z-Series engine in the next-generation Swift hatchback.

Being a 3-cylinder unit, the Z12 engine in the next-generation Swift hatchback is expected to be lighter than the current 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, K-Series engine in the outgoing Swift hatchback. We expect this lightness could be beneficial in maximising performance and efficiency.
Coming to the matter of efficiency, each generation of Maruti Suzuki Swift has shown progress in terms of efficiency. However, with the new Z12 engine, the next-generation Swift is expected to take a significant leap in terms of fuel efficiency figures.

In fact, in test conditions, the new Z12 engine in the next-generation Swift hatchback is expected to deliver a fuel efficiency figure of close to 40km/l. Such fuel efficiency figures no longer rival hatchbacks but scooters!
As such, we believe the next-generation Swift mileage figures to be closer to the 30s rather than the 20s in real-world conditions. This characteristic alone is surely expected to attract the interest of lot of potential buyers in the country.

Thoughts About The Next-Generation Swift
There is a lot of hype around the next-generation Swift hatchback. Keeping aside the rumours and speculations, we expect the next-generation Swift to be an improvement over the outgoing version in every measurable parameter.
