Old Thar To New Thar Conversion – This Garage Even Provides 3-Year Warranty
It is quite common practice in India to convert older cars into its latest iteration. This is usually common in cars such as the Hindustan Ambassador, Maruti Suzuki Omni, Hyundai Santro, Tata Sumo, Toyota Qualis, and Toyota Innova.
Now, the latest vehicle to jump on this conversion bandwagon is the Mahindra Thar SUV. Not the latest model, but the previous generation model. Also, we expect this conversion trend to continue for more years despite the introduction of more stringent rules in the recent years.

Under this conversion, the previous generation Mahindra Thar SUV has been converted to the latest model. In fact, this conversion looks top-notch with almost no visual details to give away its original identity.
In fact, the previous generation Mahindra Thar SUV that is being converted belongs to the owner of the garage itself. Moreover, he intends to convert his previous generation Mahindra Thar into the stock version of the current generation Mahindra Thar SUV.
It is also worth mentioning that some of the parts used for this conversion are taken straight from the latest generation Mahindra Thar SUV. Moreover, such parts have been sourced through insurance companies and scrap yards.
According to the garage owner, this unique approach has allowed him to use aftermarket That SUV parts without any issues. This is very positive for those looking forward to customising their Thar SUV.

However, we can see from the video that a few more parts needs to be arranged to complete this project and the interior also needs some work. Moreover, the model is also set to get a sunroof and a few other accessories to enhance its looks.
That being said, the powertrain and the chassis have been left untouched. This means the model continues to be powered by a 2.5-litre, turbocharged engine with 103bhp and 247Nm of torque. Also, the model continues to use a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Coming to the cost, the exterior conversion would alone cost Rs 4,50,000. On top of that, interior work would cost an additional Rs 45,000. However, the most interesting part is that the garage is providing a 3-year warranty against rusting and creaks.
Thoughts: Modifications are illegal in India. However, this modification work looks very neat and deserves applause. That being said, we are eagerly waiting to see the final version with the completed interior and more.
