Understanding The Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus Variants– A Complete Buyer's Guide
If you are a performance enthusiast and looking forward to buying a sedan in India, the chances are that you have already shortlisted the Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus sedan, but slightly confused due to the lack of a manual transmission option and tall price tag.
Now, Volkswagen India seems to have addressed these issues by unveiling the manual variant of the Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus sedan. On top of that, the German automaker also revealed the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus Edge variant.
Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus (DSG): The Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus trim level equipped with the DSG transmission is the only variant of the sedan currently available in India with the more powerful 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol engine (1.5 TSI).
This variant is priced at Rs 18.57 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and it is a good choice for those looking for a punchy German sedan with an automatic gearbox under Rs 20 lakh.
Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus (MT): Volkswagen recently unveiled the manual transmission variant of the Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus trim level and the bookings for this variant is expected to commence next month.
That being said, the Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus with a 6-speed manual transmission will be well-suited for enthusiasts in India and on top of that, we expect this variant to be priced around Rs 17.15 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus Edge: This new variant was revealed alongside the Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus manual variant, and it is based on the Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus (DSG). As such, the Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus Edge will come equipped with the 1.5 TSI engine and 7-speed DSG transmission.
However, what sets the Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus Edge apart from the Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus (DSG) is that the model comes with a few visual enhancements such as a Lava Blue paint job, 16-inch 'Razor' alloy wheels, aluminium pedals and red stitching on the leatherette upholstery.
This model is expected to be around Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 more expensive than the Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus (DSG) variant, which it is based on. Moreover, this model is suitable for those who like a bit of a sporty vibe and stand out from the crowd.
Engine: Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus sedan is powered by a 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol engine in the Volkswagen Virtus produces 147.5bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. On top of that, this powertrain can deactivate two of its four cylinders to improve fuel efficiency.
Fuel Efficiency: Volkswagen claims that the Virtus GT Plus sedan with the 7-speed DSG transmission returns a fuel efficiency figure of 18.67km/l. As such, we expect the manual variant of the Virtus GT Plus sedan to be slightly more fuel efficient as it is the case with the Taigun SUV.
Standout Features: Noteworthy features in the Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus trim level include a 10.1-inch infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ventilated front seats, electric sunroof, a digital instrument cluster, climate control, 6 airbags, ESC, multi-collision brakes and more.
Colours: The Volkswagen Virtus sedan is currently available in 6 exterior colour options including Reflex Silver, Carbon Steel Grey, Candy White, Wild Cherry Red, Curcuma Yellow, and Rising Blue Metallic.
On top of that, Volkswagen revealed a new shade called the Virtus Deep Black while unveiling the Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus manual variant. Moreover, the manual variant of the Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus will feature a contrasting Carbon Steel Grey roof for a sportier appeal.
