The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire is the latest car for the Indian market from the largest carmaker in the country. Prices for the fourth-generation Dzire, the safest car ever from Maruti Suzuki (as per GNCAP ratings) start at Rs 6.79 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 10.74 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom, introductory till Dec 31st).

The arrival of the new Dzire is expected to reignite interest in the compact sedan segment. So before you get into the driver's seat for a test drive, we've decided to compare the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire against its rivals - the Honda Amaze, the Hyundai Aura and the Tata Tigor.

The new 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire measures 3,995mm long, 1,735mm wide and 1,525mm tall and features a 2,450mm long wheelbase. The Honda Amaze, on the other hand, measures 3,995mm long, 1,695mm wide and 1,501mm tall and features a 2,470mm long wheelbase.

The Hyundai Aura measures 3,995mm long, 1680mm wide and 1,520mm tall and sports a 2,450mm long wheelbase. Finally, the Tata Tigor measures 3,993mm long, 1,677mm wide and 1,532mm tall and features a 2,450mm long wheelbase.

From the basic dimensions, it is clear that the Tigor falls 2mm short in terms of length compared to the new Dzire, Amaze and Aura, with all three cars measuring 3,995mm long. However, despite measuring almost the same in terms of length, the Honda Amaze offers a 20mm longer wheelbase at 2,470mm which should translate to more space inside the cabin of the Japanese compact sedan.

The 2024 Dzire is the widest of the four sedans being compared here measuring 1,735mm wide. The new Dzire is 40mm wider than the Amaze, 55mm wider than the Aura and 58mm wider than the Tigor.

In terms of height, the Tata Tigor is the tallest of the four compact sedans on offer. The Dzire falls 5mm short of the Tiago in terms of height while the Aura and the Amaze are 12mm and 31mm respectively shorter than the Tata compact sedan.

Ground clearance is another dimension where the four compact sedans are quite close. The Honda Amaze and the Tata Tiago both offer 170mm of ground clearance while the Aura falls 5mm short offering 165mm of ground clearance. The new Dzire offers the least amount of ground clearance at just 163mm.

The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire sports a new Z12E engine in the form of a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated, inline three-cylinder unit that runs on both petrol and CNG and comes paired with 5-speed manual and AMT gearboxes.

The new Dzire's engine produces 80bhp at 5,700rpm and 111.7Nm of peak torque at 4,300rpm when powered by petrol. The engine is paired with 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options and delivers a mileage of 24.79km/l in manual guise and 25.71km/l in AMT form.

In CNG guise, the Dzire's engine pushes out 68.79bhp at 5,700rpm and 101.8Nm of peak torque at 2,900rpm. In CNG form the new Dzire is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox and delivers a mileage of 33.73km/kg.

The Tata Tigor like the new Dzire sports a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine that is powered by both petrol and CNG. In petrol form, the Tigor produces 84.5bhp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm of peak torque at 3,300rpm. The Tigor petrol delivers a mileage of 19.28km/l in manual form and 19.6km/l in AMT guise.

The Tigor CNG, on the other hand, produces 72.4bhp at 6,000rpm and 95Nm of peak torque at 3,500rpm which is paired with both manual and AMT gearbox options. The Tiago CNG delivers a mileage of 26.4km/kg in manual guise and 28.06km/kg in AMT form.

The Hyundai Aura's 1.2-litre engine is a four-cylinder unit that produces 82bhp at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm. The engine is offered with 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. The Aura petrol delivers a mileage of 17km/l.

The Aura CNG produces 68bhp at 6,000rpm and 95Nm at 4,000rpm and comes paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Aura CNG delivers a mileage of 22km/kg.

The Honda Amaze's 1.2-litre four-cylinder i-VTEC engine is the only one on offer that runs solely on petrol. The engine produces 89bhp at 6,000rpm and 110Nm of peak torque at 4,800rpm and comes paired with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. The Honda Amaze manual delivers a mileage of 18.6km/l while the CVT offers a mileage of 18.3km/l.

Out of the four cars on offer, the Honda Amaze is the most powerful with a power output of 89bhp while the new Dzire is the least powerful with 80bhp on tap. In terms of torque, the Aura's engine takes the top spot with 114Nm while the Amaze's powerplant is the least torquey with 110Nm on offer.

In terms of mileage, when running on petrol, the new Dzire's frugal Z12E engine takes the cake delivering 25.71km/l. The most petrol-hungry of the four vehicles is the Hyundai Aura which delivers just 17km/l. In CNG form, the new Dzire tops the charts again with a claimed 33.73km/kg while the Aura delivers just 22km/kg.
