Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Eyes Victory At FIA WEC São Paulo Return

Aston Martin's new Vantage GT3 is set to return to the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Autódromo José Carlos Pace in São Paulo, Brazil. This marks the first time in a decade that the series will be held at this venue. The Heart of Racing (THoR) and D’station Racing will be representing Aston Martin in their quest for the new Vantage GT3’s first WEC class win.

The new Vantage GT3, closely derived from the Vantage road car unveiled earlier this year, has already shown impressive performance. Built around Aston Martin’s bonded aluminium chassis and powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine, it secured five victories in June alone. These wins include Aston Martin’s first overall victory in the 24 Hours of Spa since 1948 with Comtoyou Racing.

THoR achieved its maiden win in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Watkins Glen. Blackthorn Racing won the Road to Le Mans race supporting the 24 Hours of Le Mans, while Walkenhorst Motorsport clinched a Pro-Am class win in the Nürburgring Langstrecken Series. D’station Racing initiated this winning streak with a victory in Japan’s SUPER GT Series GT300 class.

D’station Racing and THoR both recorded podium finishes in WEC’s season-opening 1812km of Qatar. As they head to Interlagos, Aston Martin aims to add to its record of three wins and three podiums from previous events held between 2012 and 2014 at this track. D’station Racing drivers Marco Sørensen, Erwan Bastard, and Clément Mateu are set to compete, with Sørensen being a three-time FIA WEC champion.

THoR team principal Ian James will rejoin regular teammates Daniel Mancinelli and Alex Riberas for the race at Interlagos. Riberas, along with Ross Gunn, secured Aston Martin and THoR’s first victory with the new Vantage at Watkins Glen last month. For the IMSA race at Canadian Tires Motorsport Park (Mosport), Roman De Angelis will be joined by Spencer Pumpelly, replacing Zacharie Robichon who will race in Brazil.

Adam Carter, Aston Martin Head of Endurance Motorsport, expressed optimism about their return to Brazil after ten years. He highlighted their successful June victories and competitive performance at Le Mans as indicators that they can fight for victory despite fierce competition.
