Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Achieves Second Consecutive IMSA Victory With The Heart Of Racing

Aston Martin's new Vantage GT3 secured its second consecutive IMSA class win at the Canadian Tires Motorsport Park. The Heart of Racing (THoR) team dominated the GTD category, with Roman De Angelis and Spencer Pumpelly driving the #27 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 to victory. This marked De Angelis' second home race win in three years.

The win was significant for Aston Martin, marking their 13th IMSA victory in the GT classes and THoR's eighth GTD class win since joining IMSA in 2020. THoR has achieved 26 podium finishes in four and a half years, while Magnus Racing added three more from its Endurance Race programme.

In the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), THoR matched its best result by finishing second in the LMGT3 class at the 6 Hours of São Paolo. Ian James, racing in Brazil, expressed his satisfaction: "Winning in IMSA, at the Canadian Tires Motorsport Park, was an awesome way to start the day, and a well-deserved reward for all the hard work this year from everybody on the #27 crew."

James and his co-drivers Alex Riberas and Daniel Mancinelli nearly secured a double win for Aston Martin. Starting ninth, James moved up to third by his double-stint's end. Mancinelli then advanced to second place before a late-race Full Course Yellow forced Riberas to settle for second.

The D’station Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 also performed admirably. Starting 14th in LMGT3, they finished ninth thanks to strong efforts from Clément Mateu, Erwan Bastard, and Marco Sørensen. Adam Carter, Head of Endurance Motorsport, noted: "The new Aston Martin Vantage GT3 is really hitting its stride now... It feels like if the competitive level can be maintained, a first WEC victory with Vantage is within our grasp in 2024."

Ross Gunn and Mario Farnbacher finished fifth in the GTD Pro class at Mosport. Gunn is now within 60 points of the class lead with four rounds remaining this season.
