BMW Group Redefines Vehicle Design With Innovative Team Structure
The BMW Group is set to overhaul its Design division under Adrian van Hooydonk's leadership. This reorganisation, effective from 1 October 2024, aligns with the NEUE KLASSE's "electric, digital, circular" philosophy. The new cross-brand design team aims to meet evolving demands in vehicle design and maintain industry standards.
Adrian van Hooydonk emphasised the rapid changes in technology and customer preferences. He stated, "Technology and customer preferences are currently changing faster than ever. Automotive design has become more diverse. Designing digital experiences and sound also plays an increasingly important role, along with sustainable and recycled materials."

Maximilian Missoni will join the BMW Group Design team to oversee upper mid-size and luxury class BMW models, including BMW Alpina. Missoni brings experience from Volkswagen, Volvo Cars, and Polestar, where he was Head of Design. Oliver Heilmer will now handle the design of all compact and mid-size BMW models as well as BMW M.
Claudia Braun will lead the newly formed cross-brand department for Colour and Material Design for BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Braun has been managing colour and materials for the BMW brand since April 2024 and has prior experience with Porsche AG, Daimler AG, and Volvo Cars.
Anders Warming will take charge of all Advanced Design topics and oversee the BMW Group Designworks subsidiary. Previously Head of Design at Rolls-Royce, Warming's new role underscores the company's focus on future-oriented vehicle design.
Domagoj Dukec will now be responsible for Rolls-Royce Design, including Bespoke and Coachbuild. His previous role was Head of the BMW Design Studio. Holger Hampf will transition from Head of BMW Group Designworks to leading design for the MINI brand.
Commitment to Innovation
Christian Bauer continues to lead digital customer experience across all brands into a new era. Van Hooydonk expressed his enthusiasm about working with a highly qualified team: "I am delighted to continue driving the design and further development of our vehicles and brands forward, together with a first-class team of highly qualified design professionals."
The reorganisation aims to consolidate Colour and Material Design across all brands while dividing the BMW brand team into two studios. The focus on "Advanced Design" is also being strengthened to adapt to changing demands in vehicle design.
