BYD Unveils New Generation EYT 2.0 Electric Yard Tractor In Europe To Boost Eco-Friendly Logistics
BYD, a global leader in new energy vehicles, has unveiled the BYD EYT 2.0 Electric Yard Tractor at IAA Transportation 2024 in Europe. This model is tailored for European operations, featuring numerous enhancements and aesthetic updates aimed at boosting productivity in ports, terminals, logistic parks, and distribution centres transitioning to eco-friendly solutions.
The BYD EYT 2.0 boasts a robust design with a high-strength rigid frame and an impressive Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of up to 75 tonnes. It operates smoothly even under heavy loads, thanks to innovative integrated bridge technology and a fifth lifting wheel that simplifies coupling and decoupling processes. The vehicle's towing capacity reaches up to 64,800 kg.
Central to the BYD EYT 2.0 is the acclaimed Blade Battery, known for its durability and safety. This battery uses Lithium Iron-Phosphate (LFP) as its cathode material, offering superior thermal stability compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries. The Blade Battery can power the tractor for up to 16 hours on a single charge and supports quick DC charging between shifts.
The electric yard tractor is equipped with a powerful motor delivering up to 260 kW of peak power. It features a two-gear AMT transmission for smooth operation and can be charged from 20% to 80% in just one hour using DC charging (up to 130 kW). This ensures minimal downtime and maximum efficiency during operations.
The BYD EYT 2.0 adopts a modern design concept that reflects its new energy credentials while retaining its signature offset cab. The vehicle features BYD’s distinctive X design front face, robust front grille, muscular air intake vents, and a contrasting two-tone body and bumper for dynamic styling.
Driver comfort is prioritised with rear air suspension reducing vibration and an insulated cab lowering noise levels. The spacious cab has an inner height of 1.9 metres, allowing drivers to stand upright. The interior includes ergonomic ventilated heated seating, air-conditioning/climate control, DAB Radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and a sliding rear door for easy entry and exit.
Operational Efficiency
The short wheelbase of the BYD EYT 2.0 enhances manoeuvrability, making cornering easier without frequent reversing. This saves time and improves safety by simplifying navigation in confined spaces. Additional features like EBS braking, Traction Control, ESC support stable driving on various road surfaces by monitoring steering angle and vehicle acceleration.
Safety is further enhanced with Drag Torque Control (DTC), which prevents drive wheels from slipping on low traction surfaces. The vehicle also includes comprehensive driver assistance systems such as tyre pressure monitoring, overcharge reminders, undervoltage reminders, temperature alerts, system failure warnings, reversing sensors, and a VDO Tachograph.
Durability in Extreme Conditions
The BYD EYT 2.0 is designed to withstand extreme temperatures ranging from -20℃ to 50℃ with an expected lifespan of over ten years. Its maintenance-free structures include axle wheel ends, leaf springs, steering tie rods via a centralised adaptable lubrication system for the lifting wheel mechanism.
This electric yard tractor is ideal for swift loading and unloading in busy ports due to grip coupling valves located at the rear of the vehicle that can be hooked up in less than 15 seconds. The fifth lifting wheel offers ground clearance heights of either 1155mm or 1080mm depending on the variant.
