ChargePoint And General Motors Collaborate To Install Up To 500 Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Ports Across The U.S.

ChargePoint and General Motors (GM) are collaborating to expand electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in the United States. Their plan involves setting up 500 ultra-fast charging stations nationwide by 2025. These stations will feature ChargePoint's Omni Port connector system, ensuring compatibility with both current and future EVs. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility and reduce charging times for drivers.

The planned charging stations will utilise ChargePoint's Express Plus platform, which supports charging speeds of up to 500kW. This technology promises to significantly cut down the time needed for EVs to recharge, making it more convenient for users. The Omni Port system allows vehicles with CCS or NACS ports to charge without needing adapters or specific parking spaces.

ChargePoint and GM Partner for EV Charging Expansion

Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, stated, "The transition to electric mobility continues to be driven by leaders such as General Motors offering innovative EVs and committing to make chargers as ubiquitous as possible." He emphasised the importance of this collaboration in enhancing fast and easy charging access across the country.

Wade Sheffer, GM Energy vice president, highlighted that providing better charging options is crucial for encouraging more people to switch to EVs. He noted that GM drivers already have numerous charging locations available and expressed pride in expanding these through the partnership with ChargePoint.

This collaboration also includes an incentive program aimed at simplifying the process for third-party charge point operators (CPOs) to manage EV charging infrastructure. By doing so, ChargePoint and GM hope to accelerate the deployment of DC fast chargers throughout the U.S., making it easier for CPOs to participate in this growing market.

Company Backgrounds
