Yates And Morrow Share The Spoils, Dewhirst Continues Winning Streak At Ferrari Challenge UK Race In Snetterton

Snetterton, Saturday 8 June 2024 - The third round of the 2024 Ferrari Challenge UK race series kicked off today at Snetterton race circuit in Norfolk. Despite initial showers, the day turned out to be sunny, creating ideal conditions for a thrilling display of competitive racing. The Trofeo Pirelli and Coppa Shell drivers pushed their Ferrari 488 Challenge EVO race cars to the limit.Qualifying 1:In the Trofeo Pirelli category, Gilbert Yates from Charles Hurst showcased his skills during the qualifying session, clocking an impressive lap time of 2:09.727. He outperformed Andrew Morrow from Charles Hurst by nearly one second. In the Coppa Shell category, Gary Redman from Graypaul Nottingham demonstrated his experience and mastery of the track by securing the top position with a flying lap time of 2:15.607.Trofeo Pirelli:The race started with clear skies and sunshine, resulting in an almost-dry track. Haymandhra Pillai from Jardine Colchester made a strong start, overtaking Andrew Morrow on the inside of turn one. However, Morrow quickly retaliated and regained his position, focusing on catching up to his Charles Hurst teammate Yates, who was leading the pack. Pranav Vangala from HR Owen capitalized on a mistake from Pillai and moved up into the podium places. The battle for first place intensified as Morrow closed in on Yates. With just seven minutes remaining, Yates made a wide entry into Riches, allowing Morrow to make a decisive move and take the lead. Despite Yates' efforts to catch up, Morrow maintained his composure and secured victory, extending his unbeaten streak at Snetterton to four races.Coppa Shell:Robert Rees from Dick Lovett Swindon made an impressive start, catapulting himself from fourth to first place before the exit of Riches. Mike Dewhirst from Dick Lovett Swindon also took advantage of the opportunity and overtook Gary Redman from Graypaul Nottingham to secure second position. Dewhirst continued to showcase his race pace and eventually capitalized on a mistake by Rees to take the lead. The day was filled with exciting racing action.Qualifying 2:Gilbert Yates from Charles Hurst once again displayed his skill by securing pole position in the Trofeo Pirelli category with a time of 1:52.302. In the Coppa Shell category, Gary Redman from Graypaul Nottingham followed suit and set the quickest dry lap, securing a lead time of 1:54.906.Trofeo Pirelli:The second race commenced with Gilbert Yates and Andrew Morrow confidently establishing themselves at the front of the pack. Haymandhra Pillai from Jardine Colchester applied pressure to Pranav Vangala from HR Owen throughout the race, eventually overtaking him to secure third position. However, Pillai received a five-second time penalty for an earlier incident with Vangala, motivating Vangala to push harder and regain his position. Yates maintained his performance and successfully kept Morrow behind him, crossing the finish line to secure his first win of the weekend. The battle for the Trofeo Pirelli title between Yates and Morrow remains intense, with both drivers tied at 69 points.Coppa Shell:Robert Rees from Dick Lovett Swindon once again made a strong start, moving from second to first place before turn one. Darren Howell from JCT600 Leeds also made progress, climbing from sixth to third position by the end of the first lap. Contact between Peter Hunter from Stratstone Manchester and Howell resulted in a puncture for Hunter. Mike Dewhirst from Dick Lovett Swindon continued to improve his lap times and capitalized on an opportunity to overtake Howell, securing second position. Dewhirst's impressive performance continued as he caught up with Rees in the final minutes of the race, ultimately overtaking him and securing his second victory of the weekend. Rees currently leads the Coppa Shell standings with 88 points, closely followed by Dewhirst with 77 points.The next race in the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli UK series will take place at Donington on Saturday 20 - Sunday 21 July 2024.
