Fourth-Generation Mini Cooper Revealed – Many Exciting Design Details & Features
Imagine the charm of the 1959 classic Mini, now blended with modern vigour and style. Mini has unveiled the fourth-generation Cooper petrol 3-door hatchback, marking it as the ultimate combustion-engined version of this iconic car.
Since BMW rejuvenated the brand in 2000, the Mini has been a cornerstone of its lineup. The latest iteration not only pays homage to its roots but also introduces a lineup that includes a 3-door, 5-door, a soft-top convertible, and the high-performance John Cooper Works variant.

The new Mini Cooper petrol hatchback may mirror the exterior of its electric sibling, the Mini Cooper EV, yet it rides on a distinct platform and diverges entirely in mechanical terms. Unlike the EV, which is built on a specialized platform, the petrol variant is an extensively refined version of the previous model.
The fourth-gen Cooper boasts the same turbo-petrol engines as its predecessor but with enhanced power. The base model, Cooper C, sees its 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine amped up by 20hp to 156hp, shaving 0.4 seconds off its 0-100km/h sprint to clock it at 7.7 seconds.

The Cooper S's 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine gets a 25hp boost to 204hp, maintaining its 0-100km/h sprint time at 6.6 seconds, still edging out the top-tier electric Cooper SE. Significantly, both models are now exclusively available with automatic transmissions.
Step inside the new petrol 3-door, and you're greeted by a minimalist yet sophisticated dashboard. The centerpiece is undoubtedly the round OLED touchscreen, a first in a production car according to Mini.

This screen serves as the hub for vital information like road speed and fuel economy, displayed at the top, with a convenient menu bar at the bottom. Most climate control functions are integrated into this screen, with dedicated buttons for the front and rear defoggers.
The repositioned gear selector, now placed below the screen alongside the handbrake button, turn-key starter, driving mode selector, and audio control dial, exemplifies Mini's commitment to ergonomic design and user-friendly interfaces.

With the third-gen Cooper hatchback currently available in India in both petrol and electric variants, the anticipation for the fourth-gen range is palpable. Meanwhile, the fourth-gen Cooper EV is slated for an Indian debut in the third quarter of 2024, adding to the excitement for aficionados of this iconic brand.
