Genesis Magma Racing Unveils GMR-001 Hypercar To Compete In Endurance Racing Events
Genesis has unveiled its ambitious plans for high-performance luxury with the launch of Genesis Magma Racing. This marks the brand's entry into motorsport, showcasing its commitment to innovation and speed. The debut event in Dubai highlighted Genesis' dedication to endurance racing, a challenging field that tests both cars and drivers over extended periods.
The Genesis GMR-001 Hypercar is central to these ambitions, embodying the brand's "Athletic Elegance" design philosophy. With its sleek design and advanced features, this hypercar represents Genesis' commitment to combining performance with luxury. The car's distinctive lighting and aerodynamic bodywork reflect Genesis' minimalist design principles.
Hyundai Motorsport GmbH will support Genesis in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2026 and the IMSA SportsCar Championship (IMSA) in 2027. This collaboration will leverage Hyundai's decade-long experience in global motorsport, positioning Genesis on some of the world's most challenging tracks.
Endurance racing is a prestigious discipline requiring speed, reliability, and strategy. Iconic events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans demand peak performance and durability. The LMDh class, featuring hybrid technology and standardized components, offers a platform for manufacturers like Genesis to showcase engineering excellence.
André Lotterer and Luis ‘Pipo’ Derani will lead the driving team for Genesis Magma Racing. They will focus on technical development and simulator sessions ahead of their debut LMDh season in 2026. Their expertise will be crucial as they prepare for this competitive racing category.
Before entering WEC in 2026, Genesis Magma Racing will compete in the 2025 European Le Mans Series with an LMP2 team. Emerging talents Logan Sargeant, Jamie Chadwick, and Mathys Jaubert will join this effort, supporting preparations for future endurance challenges.
Design Philosophy and Cultural Identity
The GMR-001 Hypercar's design incorporates elements from Korean culture, including a logo inspired by hangeul consonants. This reflects Genesis' distinctly Korean identity while symbolizing its bold entry into motorsport. The car's black finish signals a new era for Genesis performance vehicles.
The hypercar's side profile features a sweeping parabolic line that enhances airflow toward the rear diffuser. This improves downforce and handling on the track while maintaining functional elegance. An active spoiler adjusts to driving conditions, balancing drag reduction with stability during high-speed racing.
Strategic Collaborations
Genesis Magma Racing will collaborate with IDEC Sport for its European Le Mans Series entry in 2025. The team's strategic base at Circuit Paul Ricard in France facilitates collaboration with ORECA Motorsport and IDEC Sport, streamlining operations for future success.
Cyril Abiteboul, President of Hyundai Motorsport GmbH, emphasized Hyundai's role as a backbone for Genesis' motorsport activities. "We are elevating our circuit racing expertise to a whole new level," he stated about this ambitious program.
A Broader Vision
The unveiling of the GMR-001 Hypercar is part of Genesis' broader vision to redefine high-performance luxury beyond the racetrack. Five unique Magma concept models were displayed at the event, highlighting the brand's pursuit of excellence since introducing the GV80 Coupe Concept in April 2023.
"The GMR-001 Hypercar represents a fusion of performance ambitions with our design-driven DNA," said Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Genesis. He added that this project embodies speed meeting elegance as part of a new chapter for Genesis.
