Honda Motor CEO Toshihiro Mibe Honored With Prestigious 2024 Industry Leadership Award
Toshihiro Mibe, president and CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., has been honoured with the 2024 Industry Leadership Award by the SAE Foundation. This accolade recognises his significant contributions to the mobility industry, his innovative approach, and his commitment to STEM education and philanthropy.
"This Industry Leadership Award is a testament to Mr. Mibe's prestigious career, his leadership in the mobility industry, and Honda's support of STEM education," said Jamie Ferguson, executive director of the SAE Foundation & STEM Learning. Mibe has been instrumental in steering Honda through a transformative period in the automotive industry.
Mibe has positioned this era as the "second founding" of Honda, focusing on advancing mobility to enhance people's lives. He has set ambitious global goals for Honda, including achieving carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities and eliminating traffic collision fatalities involving Honda vehicles by 2050.
Industry Contributions
"It is a great honour to be recognised with the Industry Leadership Award," Mibe stated. "As an engineer, I am proud to be a member of SAE International and to receive this honour from the SAE Foundation." Mibe has been pivotal in developing some of Honda's most iconic engines over the past three decades.

Mibe led the development of the engine that enabled the 2000 Honda Accord to become the first gasoline car to meet the SULEV standard in 1999, four years ahead of regulatory requirements. His leadership has driven Honda's electrification efforts and forged key partnerships to shape future mobility.

Mibe has spearheaded initiatives for sustainable transportation solutions, including battery and electric vehicle co-development programs with General Motors.
