Honda Freed's 2024 Model Debuts In Japan With Advanced Hybrid Options

The all-new Honda Freed compact MPV has been launched in Japan, with prices ranging from 2.508 million to 3.437 million yen. The vehicle is available in two variants, the Air and the Crosstar, and comes with a choice of two powertrains: a 1.5L NA petrol engine and a 1.5L petrol engine with an e:HEV dual-motor system. The exterior design is heavily influenced by the Crossroad, while the interior features a new dashboard similar to the latest N-Box.

Dimensions and Powertrain Options

The 2024 Honda Freed measures 4,310 mm in length, up to 1,720 mm in width, and 1,780 mm in height, making it slightly larger than its predecessor. The wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,740 mm. The 1.5L NA petrol engine produces 118 PS at 6,600 rpm and 142 Nm of torque at 4,300 rpm and is paired with a CVT transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, while an all-wheel-drive system is optional.

e:HEV Dual-Motor Hybrid System

The e:HEV dual-motor hybrid system features a 1.5L NA four-cylinder petrol engine that generates 106 PS and 127 Nm of torque. This works in conjunction with a 48-Ah lithium-ion battery and an electric motor producing 123 PS and 253 Nm to form the hybrid system. An all-wheel-drive system is enabled by the Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) and a secondary electric motor that powers the rear axle when needed.

Fuel Efficiency and Interior Features

Honda claims a WLTC fuel consumption of 25 kmpl for the hybrid variant and 16.2 kmpl for the regular NA petrol engine. The Crosstar variant sports rugged finishes on the grille, cladding, and skid plate. Inside, there's a digital instrument cluster, large central touchscreen infotainment system surrounded by fabric trim, repositioned AC vents, and practical features for family-based customers.

Seating Configurations and Safety Features

The Freed Air offers six- and seven-seater layouts while the Crosstar comes in five- and six-seat configurations. Standard safety features include Honda Sensing suite with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), among others. Additionally, there are specialised variants for people with disabilities featuring extendable ramps for wheelchairs and pivoted front passenger seats.

The new Honda Freed offers various powertrain options along with updated exterior styling and interior features catering to different customer needs. With multiple seating configurations available as well as safety features as standard equipment, it aims to provide versatility for families or individuals requiring additional accessibility options.
