Hyundai And Children’s Of Alabama Strengthen Commitment To Child Passenger Safety Through Community Events

Hyundai Motor America recently organised a child safety seat check event in Birmingham, Alabama, in collaboration with Children’s of Alabama. This initiative is part of Hyundai's ongoing commitment to child passenger safety through its Hyundai Hope program. The partnership aims to equip families with the knowledge and resources necessary to ensure children's safety on the road.

"At Hyundai, the safety of our customers is at the forefront of everything we do, and we take that commitment beyond developing high-quality vehicles," stated Cole Stutz, chief safety officer at Hyundai Motor North America. "Our recent event with Children’s of Alabama exemplifies how we maximize our community partnerships to meet people where they are and promote proper use of safety seats to protect our youngest passengers."

The collaboration between Hyundai and Children’s of Alabama has led to multiple child safety seat checks across the state, including in Montgomery and Birmingham. During these events, certified technicians inspect car seats for recalls, expiration dates, and proper fit for children. Families also receive replacement seats if necessary.

Marie Crew, director at the Health Education and Safety Center at Children’s of Alabama, highlighted the importance of such partnerships. "Motor vehicle crashes remain one of the leading causes of death and injuries for children," she said. "Partnerships like the one we have with Hyundai Hope allow us to continue to educate parents about safety, especially for young passengers."

Since this partnership began, over 900 families have been assisted, and more than 140 car seats have been replaced. The initiative continues to make a significant impact by educating parents on proper car seat installation and usage. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), correct use of car seats can reduce fatal injury risk by 71% for infants under one year old.

Children’s of Alabama has been providing specialised medical care since 1911. It serves as a teaching hospital for UAB's pediatric programs and is ranked among the top children’s hospitals nationwide by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital offers comprehensive care throughout Central Alabama.
