Hyundai And Children's Hospital LA Strengthen Efforts For Child Safety
Hyundai Motor America has donated $100,000 to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) for its Injury Prevention and Child Passenger Safety Program. This initiative, part of Hyundai's corporate social responsibility effort, Hyundai Hope, aims to enhance child passenger and pedestrian safety in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
Hyundai and CHLA have organised four child safety seat check events, serving over 325 families and replacing 100 car seats. Additionally, more than 200 students, caregivers, and teachers have participated in LA Street Smarts events focused on pedestrian safety. These events aim to educate the community on the importance of proper car seat installation and pedestrian awareness.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that nearly half of car seats are incorrectly installed or used. Properly installed safety seats can reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers. These statistics highlight the critical need for Hyundai and CHLA's ongoing efforts.
"At Hyundai, we value our partnership with CHLA and our shared commitment to enabling safety in the communities where we work and live," said Brian Latouf, global chief safety and quality officer at Hyundai Motor Group. "The Injury Prevention and Child Passenger Safety Program is world-class in delivering technical knowledge and resources that parents and caregivers need to help keep their children safe, and it is making a difference."
The partnership will continue to host child safety seat checks across Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Certified child passenger safety technicians will inspect seats for recalls, expiration dates, and proper fit. Families will receive replacement seats if necessary. This initiative ensures that children travel safely in properly installed car seats.
Pedestrian Safety Education
LA Street Smarts events feature a mobile, life-size set with active traffic signals and interactive components. These events teach children about the hazards associated with walking near streets through real-life scenarios. Children practice proper pedestrian safety techniques in a controlled environment.
"We are immensely grateful for Hyundai’s ongoing support for our injury prevention efforts," says Helen Arbogast, Dr.P.H., MPH, manager of the Injury Prevention Program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. "Hyundai’s generosity allows us to reach more children and families with critical, lifesaving child passenger and pedestrian safety information."
