India Witnesses Significant Growth In Luxury Car Sales In First Half Of 2024
The luxury car market in India is expanding rapidly, with brands like Mercedes-Benz and BMW seeing significant sales. Recent data reveals the number of luxury cars sold in the first half of 2024. This data highlights an increase in sales compared to previous years and identifies the leading luxury car sellers in India.
Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz leads the market, selling 9,262 cars in India from January to June 2024. This figure represents a 9% increase over the same period in 2023. Mercedes-Benz accounts for about 55% of all luxury car sales in India during this timeframe.

BMW
BMW, holding the second position, has experienced a notable growth of about 21% compared to 2023. In the first six months of 2024, BMW Group sold a total of 7,098 cars. This includes 6,734 BMW cars and 364 Mini cars.

Audi
Audi ranks third, with 2,477 cars sold in India during the first half of 2024. The company sold 1,046 cars in the first quarter and 1,431 in the second quarter. Audi's used car sales have also increased by 33%, contributing to its overall growth.

Lexus
Lexus ranks fourth after Audi. Lexus India's sales have grown by 14% this year compared to 2023. Notably, 55% of Lexus buyers opt for the ES sedan. Lexus SUV sales have also increased by 60%, reflecting a growing preference for these models.

DriveSpark Thinks
Approximately 25% of Mercedes-Benz cars sold are priced over ₹1.5 crore, indicating that one in four cars falls into this high-end category. Mercedes offers three versions: Benz, AMG, and Maybach, with Maybach being the most expensive.
The sale of Mercedes-Maybach vehicles has surged by about 108% compared to last year. Additionally, Mercedes' electric car sales have risen by 60%. Despite this growth, BMW has shown larger overall growth than Mercedes-Benz.
Although India's luxury car sales are not as high as those in the United States or China, it remains one of the largest markets globally. That being said, the top three luxury car brands in India continue to be German manufacturers - Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi.
